HB 4572 increases regulation of oil and gas waste storage pits. The bill directs the Railroad Commission of Texas to adopt standards for drilling reserve and mud circulation pits, including location requirements, bonding and financial security measures, groundwater monitoring rules, and closure protocols. It also mandates that operators notify county clerks when oil and gas waste is permanently buried in these pits​.
