HB 4602 creates two new criminal justice grant programs under the Governor’s Office to reduce investigatory and case backlogs. The Forensic Science Improvement Grant Program provides funding to crime labs, medical examiners, and coroners to expedite forensic testing and evidence processing. The Interjurisdictional Criminal Investigation Grant Pilot Program funds law enforcement agencies to improve inter-agency cooperation in large counties, streamline data sharing, and enhance case management systems. The pilot program will be evaluated for effectiveness and expire on September 1, 2027, unless renewed​.
