Digest
HB 477 mandates that the biological sex of a child, determined at birth based on physical characteristics, chromosomes, or hormonal profiles, must be recorded as either male or female on birth certificates. Exceptions are provided for children with atypical or ambiguous sexual characteristics, allowing for later amendment when a definitive determination is made. The bill also restricts the correction or modification of the biological sex on a minor’s birth certificate, except in cases of clerical error or completion of previously missing information.
