HB 5073 requires landlords to provide an accounting statement upon a tenant’s request. The statement must include rent amounts, outstanding balances, fees, and relevant lease provisions. If a landlord fails to comply within 10 days, tenants or civic associations may file suit, with prevailing tenants eligible for one month’s rent or $500 per violation, along with court costs and attorney’s fees.
