HB 5170 increases the minimum prison sentence for second- and third-degree felonies involving firearms to five years. It also restricts eligibility for community supervision and parole for offenders who used or exhibited a firearm during a crime. Additionally, it mandates consecutive sentencing for certain felonies committed while on community supervision and imposes stricter deferred adjudication restrictions​.
