Digest
HB 528 amends the Texas Education Code to enhance procedures for notifying parents about incidents of bullying and suicide risks involving their children. Schools must maintain records verifying that parents or guardians are informed and must provide them with suicide prevention materials as well as information on limiting access to potential means of suicide, such as firearms and medications. The bill directs the Texas Education Agency and the Health and Human Services Commission to develop and select the materials to be distributed. The requirements apply to both incidents of bullying and situations where a student is identified as at risk of suicide. Implementation will begin with the 2025-2026 school year.
