HB 5591 mandates opioid overdose training for Texas peace officers. It requires officers to complete a training program that covers recognizing opioid overdose symptoms and administering opioid antagonists such as naloxone. The training will be included in minimum curriculum requirements for new officers and continuing education programs for existing officers. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement must adopt rules to implement the new training requirements.
