HCR 97 designates April 14 as Sikh Day in Texas to honor the contributions of the Sikh community to the state. The resolution highlights the historical presence of Sikhs in Texas since the early 1900s and their achievements in fields such as business, medicine, agriculture, and law enforcement. It acknowledges the role of Sikh organizations in humanitarian efforts, including disaster relief, and recognizes the significance of the Sikh holiday Vaisakhi, which marks both the start of the spring harvest and the founding of the Khalsa order of Sikhism in 1699. The designation will remain in effect for ten years from the date of passage.
