HJR 172 proposes a constitutional amendment that would allow local governments to grant a property tax exemption to peace officers employed by that political subdivision. The exemption would be applied as a percentage of the appraised value of the officer’s residence homestead and would increase based on years of service, ranging from 20% for officers with at least five years of service to a full 100% exemption for those with 25 or more years of service. This amendment would be subject to voter approval on November 4, 2025.
