HJR 195 proposes a constitutional amendment to extend the redemption period for elderly homeowners whose residence homesteads are sold at an ad valorem tax sale. Currently, former owners generally have two years to reclaim their property by repaying the owed amount plus interest. This amendment extends that period to four years for individuals aged 65 or older. The extension applies only to properties sold on or after January 1, 2026 and will be presented to voters in the November 4, 2025, election.
