SB 1947 requires courts, including municipal and justice courts, to appoint certified court interpreters for individuals who do not speak English or have hearing impairments when requested by a party or witness in a civil or criminal proceeding. Courts may also appoint interpreters on their own motion, ensuring accessibility for non-English speakers and the hearing impaired​.
