Digest
SB 2000 modifies the early voting hours for personal appearance voting at the main early voting polling place in certain counties. The bill mandates that in counties where the county clerk serves as the early voting clerk, early voting must be conducted on each weekday of the early voting period, excluding legal state holidays, for at least nine hours per day, with voting hours restricted to between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. For counties with a population under 70,000, early voting must be available for at least five hours per day on weekdays during the early voting period, with the same 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. limitation. Additionally, in primary elections and general elections for state and county officers, counties with a population of 70,000 or more must conduct early voting at the main polling place for at least 12 consecutive hours on the last Saturday and at least six consecutive hours on the last Sunday before Election Day. The bill supersedes any conflicting provisions in the Election Code.
