Digest
SB 2195 enhances the reporting of protective orders and family violence convictions to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for inclusion in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The bill requires law enforcement agencies to enter protective order information into the statewide law enforcement system within three calendar days of receiving the order. It also mandates that family violence misdemeanor convictions that disqualify an individual from firearm possession be reported to DPS within five days of the judgment. DPS must then notify the FBI within three days of receiving the information.
