Digest
SB 2338 introduces a work-for-time credit system for individuals on parole or mandatory supervision, allowing them to reduce their supervision period by earning credits. Eligible individuals can receive 30 days of credit for every 140 hours worked for pay and 10 days of credit for each continuous 30-day period enrolled in approved rehabilitation, faith-based, vocational, or academic programs. However, those convicted of certain violent or sexual offenses are excluded. The bill also requires the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s pardons and paroles division to establish a system to track and verify these credits. This bill would apply only to individuals released on parole or mandatory supervision for offenses committed on or after its effective date.
