SB 2552 requires public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide students and their parents with information about eligibility requirements for public assistance programs, including Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The bill mandates that this information be provided upon a student’s enrollment and annually thereafter, using materials developed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in coordination with the Texas Education Agency. The act is set to take effect in the 2025-2026 school year.
