SJR 47 proposes a constitutional amendment to establish the Alzheimer’s Prevention and Research Institute of Texas and create the Alzheimer’s Prevention and Research Fund to support research, prevention, and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The institute would award grants to institutions, research facilities, and collaboratives working on therapies, protocols, and medical interventions aimed at mitigating the symptoms and health impacts of Alzheimer's. The resolution mandates an initial transfer of $3 billion from the state’s general revenue fund to the Alzheimer’s Prevention and Research Fund on January 1, 2026. The fund would consist of appropriations, grants, donations, patent royalties, and investment earnings, and it would be used for research, facility development, and operational costs of the institute. Grant recipients must provide matching funds equal to half of the awarded grant. The amendment will be placed on the ballot for voter approval in the November 4, 2025 election.
