Interim Hearing | Texas Water Planning & Supply

The Texas House Committee on Natural Resources will hold an interim hearing on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Legislative Chamber of Weslaco City Hall, 255 S. Kansas Ave., Weslaco, Texas.

The committee will examine the state and regional water planning process, including projections of long-term water needs and available supplies, criteria used to select water supply projects and management strategies, and progress toward addressing water supply deficits identified in the most recent State Water Plan.

Lawmakers will also study the feasibility of projects eligible for the New Water Supply for Texas Fund, including impediments to development and strategies for increasing their contribution to the state’s water supply. The committee will additionally review implementation of Senate Bill 1169, relating to the provision of water or sewer service by public entities operating jointly or concurrently.

The hearing will include oversight of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The notice specifies that the committee will hear invited testimony only, although electronic public comments may be submitted. Registration for invited witnesses will occur on-site, and a live video broadcast will not be available.
