Interim Hearing | Prosecutorial Integrity & Taxpayer Funds

The Texas House Select Committee on Governmental Oversight will hold an interim hearing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Room E2.026 of the Texas Capitol.
The committee will study the constitutional, statutory, fiscal, and economic implications of adding one or more contiguous counties to New Mexico, including the procedural steps required under state and federal law and potential consequences involving taxes, regulation, and representation.
Lawmakers will also examine prosecutorial integrity, including relationships between prosecutors and outside organizations, the use of public funds to support prosecutorial activities, potential conflicts of interest, and whether outside entities may influence prosecutorial policies or individual cases. The committee will consider whether additional transparency and accountability measures are necessary to ensure prosecutorial decisions remain grounded in applicable law and case-specific facts.
The hearing will additionally examine local government contracts with third-party consultants and nongovernmental organizations, including spending related to health and human services, public safety, and homelessness. Lawmakers will study transparency, conflicts of interest, and accountability in the expenditure of taxpayer funds.
Invited and public testimony will be heard.
