The Texas Senate Committee on Education will hold an interim hearing on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in Room E1.028 of the Texas Capitol.

The committee will review the rollout of Texas’ school choice program under Senate Bill 2, including application and enrollment demand, and consider recommendations concerning the program’s continued implementation.

Senators will also examine the current practices of some public schools involving events, partnerships, or associations with entities designated by the federal or state government as hostile actors or their surrogates. The committee will consider potential changes intended to prevent foreign adversaries or related entities from influencing Texas classrooms.

The hearing will additionally review implementation of several laws passed during the 89th Legislature involving student safety and parental rights. These include Senate Bill 571 concerning reporting and investigation of certain misconduct and child abuse and neglect; Senate Bill 12 concerning parental rights, instruction, diversity, equity and inclusion duties, social transitioning, and student clubs; Senate Bill 13 concerning school library materials and parental access; and House Bill 6 concerning discipline management and access to telehealth mental health services in public schools.

Invited and public testimony will be heard, with public testimony limited to two minutes per person.
