HB 874 requires licensed firearms dealers to report sales or transfers of multiple semiautomatic rifles with a caliber greater than .22 and detachable magazines to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Reports must also be submitted to local sheriffs and police departments, and noncompliance by dealers constitutes a Class B misdemeanor. The law applies to transactions occurring on or after the effective date of September 1, 2025.
