The Texas House Committee on State Affairs will hold an interim hearing on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in the John H. Reagan Building, Room 140.

The committee will examine the development of data centers in Texas, including their importance to global competitiveness and national security and their direct and indirect economic effects. Lawmakers will consider workforce and educational opportunities, regulatory barriers, local planning and management challenges, and implementation of Senate Bill 6 and the Large Load Batch Study Process adopted by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

The committee will also study how data center growth affects the electric grid and whether grid-connected facilities and co-located resources can support grid resilience and reliability.

Additionally, lawmakers will review the regulatory and planning processes surrounding proposed 765-kV transmission lines. Invited and public testimony will be heard.
