The Texas House Committee on Public Health will hold an interim hearing on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Room E2.030 of the Texas Capitol.
The committee will examine the impact of social media platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on the mental health, cognitive development, and behavioral well-being of minors in Texas.
Lawmakers will also study infant mortality prevention, including coordinated prevention strategies and infrastructure addressing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID). The committee will examine the use of AI in health care, including opportunities to improve access, quality, and efficiency while evaluating potential risks involving patient safety, privacy, and access to care.
The hearing will additionally address communicable diseases, emerging public health threats, chronic disease, substance use disorders, and strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality among Texans.
