Cook serves as Chair of the Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice and as a member of the Criminal Jurisprudence and Delivery of Government Efficiency Committees. In 2024, he was the Texas House Republican Caucus’s endorsed nominee for Speaker.

First sworn-in to the Texas House of Representatives in 2021, Rep. David Cook is currently serving his third term representing Texas House District 96, which encompasses the cities of Arlington, Burleson, Crowley, Fort Worth, Kennedale, Mansfield, and Rendon in Tarrant County.

Rep. Cook was appointed to serve as a member of the House Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, serving as Chair of the Permanent Standing Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice for the 89th Session. He was named a 2023 GOPAC “Emerging Leader” and is a member of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, having previously served as State Chair of the NACL.

Rep. Cook is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M University School of Law (previously Texas Wesleyan University School of Law). He is Managing Partner of Harris Cook L.L.P., a firm he co-founded with the late State Senator Chris Harris. He is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Rep. Cook previously served as Mayor of the City of Mansfield from 2008 to 2021. He has received the Mansfield News Mirror’s “Best Local Government Official” Award, the Fort Worth Business Press’ “40 Under 40” Award, and the Fort Worth Texas Magazine’s “Top Attorney” Award. He and his wife Tonya are involved with non-profits including Mansfield Cares, Mansfield Mission Center, and the Mansfield Feed the Kids Summer Program. The Cooks are members of Creekwood Church in Mansfield.
