Biography

Rep. Josey Garcia is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in 2023 to represent District 124 in western San Antonio, including Lackland Air Force Base and portions of Bexar County. A 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran, she made history as the first woman, active-duty veteran to serve in the Texas House.

Rep. Garcia spent her early years in the foster care system, attending 13 different schools before high school. At age 16, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force through the Delayed Enlistment Program, beginning her career at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Her 20-year military career included deployments to Cameroon and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as a posting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. She returned to Lackland in 2001 and retired from active service in 2014.

After retirement, Rep. Garcia became a published author and community advocate. In 2020, she co-founded Uniting America Outreach, a San Antonio–based nonprofit that delivers food and supplies to people in need. During the severe winter weather of 2021, the organization delivered more than 9,000 meals to vulnerable San Antonio residents. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Northwest Vista College.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. Garcia to the Energy Resources, Natural Resources, and Redistricting committees, as well as the Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting.
