The Texas Senate Select Committee on Homeland & Border Security will hold an interim hearing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Room E1.016 of the Texas Capitol.

The committee will examine the use of unmanned aircraft systems, commonly known as drones, as a threat to public safety and study partnerships between Texas, the federal government, and Mexico to defend against and disable hostile drones. Senators will consider which state agencies should assist the federal government with drone mitigation, protections for critical infrastructure and public events, and potential penalties for individuals who violate airspace restrictions.

The committee will also review implementation of legislation passed during the 89th Legislature, including Senate Bill 36, relating to homeland security activities and the Homeland Security Division within the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS).

Invited and public testimony will be heard. Public testimony may be limited to two minutes per witness.
