Event Details

The Texas Senate Committee on Economic Development will hold an interim hearing on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Room E1.016 of the Texas Capitol.

The committee will examine the collection, reporting, and use of state and local hotel occupancy tax revenues and assess whether the current legislative framework provides sufficient accountability for local incentives and long-term fiscal responsibility.

Senators will also study the fiscal impact of multiple project finance zones authorized within individual cities under Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code. The committee will consider whether requiring specific legislative approval for newly proposed zones could strengthen accountability, protect state revenue, and prevent unauthorized or inefficient use.

The committee will additionally examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the Texas workforce and economic competitiveness, including workforce resilience, educational pathways, private-sector innovation, upskilling, and the adoption of emerging technologies.

The committee notice specifies that invited testimony only will be heard.
