Digest
HB 106 directs the Texas Department of Public Safety to establish a DNA testing program, via agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, for individuals crossing the Texas-Mexico border between ports of entry who are suspected of engaging in human trafficking. DNA samples may only be used for federal immigration enforcement and must be destroyed after testing. No database entries or CODIS searches are permitted, and the program is contingent on federal funding.
