Digest
HB 1286 modifies the Tax Code to increase the maximum allowable attorney’s fees for prevailing property owners in ad valorem tax appeals. It raises the cap from $15,000 to $25,000 or 50% of the tax liability reduction, whichever is greater. It also eliminates the cap on attorney’s fees for homestead property owners prevailing in certain types of appeals.
