HB 1409 limits the use of administrative segregation (solitary confinement) by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. It caps confinement at three consecutive days for general misconduct and extends it to ten days only in cases where an inmate’s conduct caused serious bodily injury. The restrictions apply universally to inmates confined on or after the bill’s effective date.
