HB 172 introduces a fine arts allotment within the Texas public school finance system under Subchapter C, Chapter 48 of the Education Code. This bill entitles school districts to an additional annual allotment for each student in grades 6 through 12 enrolled in an approved fine arts course. The allotment amount is determined by multiplying the basic allotment (or the sum of the basic allotment and any additional entitlements) by 0.008. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is tasked with approving qualifying fine arts courses, including music, art, theater, and dance, that provide necessary skills for fine arts success and meet a minimum of 225 instructional minutes per week.
