HB 1826 requires depression screenings for pregnant inmates or those who have given birth within the past year while in county jails or the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The screenings must occur during each trimester, postpartum at six weeks, and at six and twelve months after delivery. The bill also mandates county jails to establish minimum standards for mental health care, nutritional needs, and other health services for pregnant inmates.
