HB 1833 proposes an amendment to Section 37.0814(b) of the Texas Education Code to allow honorably retired peace officers to serve as armed security officers at public schools. The amendment expands the existing list of eligible security personnel, which currently includes school district peace officers, school resource officers, and commissioned peace officers employed as security personnel, to include retired peace officers as defined in Section 614.121 of the Government Code.
