HB 1925 expands and clarifies tuition and fee exemptions for peace officers enrolled in public institutions of higher education in Texas. It mandates that peace officers employed by the state or its political subdivisions be exempt from paying tuition and laboratory fees for law enforcement-related degree programs. The bill directs the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, in consultation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, to define eligible degree programs. It also requires students to apply for the exemption at least one week before the regular registration deadline and to maintain satisfactory academic progress. The changes will apply starting with the 2025 fall semester.
