Digest
HB 2154 amends the Penal Code to refine the definition of a "private place" for the purposes of gambling-related offenses. It explicitly excludes for-profit poker clubs, card clubs, and game rooms from the definition of a private place. As a result, these establishments would no longer qualify for exemptions under laws governing gambling in private places. The changes apply to offenses committed on or after the effective date of September 1, 2025.
