HB 235 amends sections of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code and the Texas Penal Code to enhance protections against the unauthorized disclosure of intimate visual material. Specifically, the bill expands the definition of intimate visual material to include computer-generated depictions and those modified by artificial intelligence (AI) or other software. HB 235 imposes civil liability on individuals who disclose or promote intimate visual material without consent, knowing or reasonably believing that the material was created or shared under an expectation of privacy. Additionally, the bill updates criminal penalties for the unlawful promotion or disclosure of intimate visual material under similar conditions. This act is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
