Digest
HB 2475 requires Texas medical schools to include coursework on cultural competence and implicit bias in their curriculum. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will oversee compliance, and students pursuing an M.D. or D.O. degree must complete the required coursework before graduating. The coursework will focus on racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender-based disparities in medical treatment. The Texas Medical Board will approve the course content in consultation with the Association of American Medical Colleges or another national medical education body. The requirement applies to students enrolling in medical school on or after January 1, 2026.
