HB 2603 proposes to provide assistance to elderly individuals in obtaining protective orders against individuals who have committed physical or verbal abuse against them. The bill mandates that the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) must assist elderly persons, upon request, in obtaining a temporary ex parte order to exclude an abuser from their residence if the abuse is alleged to constitute family violence. The bill also requires the commissioner to adopt rules necessary for its implementation.
