HB 2646 establishes the Private Child Care Task Force to study ways to reduce costs and increase availability of high-quality private child care in Texas. The task force consists of seven appointed members, including representatives from the governor’s office, the Texas Senate, and the Texas House of Representatives. The task force will study issues such as cost reductions, scholarship waitlists, pre-kindergarten partnerships, and industry strengthening strategies. A final written report with recommendations must be submitted to state leadership by November 1, 2026, and the task force will be abolished on June 1, 2027.
