Digest
HB 2726 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow additional jury argument in criminal trials after a subsequent jury charge is given. If a judge issues a further charge to the jury after arguments have begun, both the prosecution and the defense must be given an opportunity to present additional argument before deliberations resume. The bill ensures that failure to provide this opportunity is subject to appellate review. This change applies only to criminal proceedings that begin on or after September 1, 2025.
