Digest
HB 2741 prohibits insurance companies from using credit scores in determining eligibility, premiums, or underwriting for personal insurance policies such as auto and homeowner’s insurance. It also bans insurers from charging higher premiums or assigning applicants to different risk tiers based on credit history or the absence of credit history. The bill removes multiple provisions in the Insurance Code that currently allow the use of credit scores in underwriting decisions. These changes apply to insurance policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
