HB 2769 amends Section 46.06 of the Texas Penal Code to prohibit the transfer of certain semiautomatic rifles to individuals under the age of 21. Specifically, it restricts the sale, lease, loan, or gift of semiautomatic rifles capable of accepting detachable magazines and with calibers greater than .22. Exceptions apply for peace officers, military personnel, or under circumstances involving temporary supervised use, such as at shooting ranges or for hunting. Violating this provision would constitute a state jail felony.
