HB 283 amends Section 621.101 of the Texas Transportation Code, allowing vehicles transporting aggregates, as defined in Section 28A.001 of the Texas Water Code, to operate at axle weights up to 15% above the maximum allowable axle weight. However, this increase is subject to the condition that the gross vehicle weight does not exceed the maximum gross weight for the specific roadway on which the vehicle operates. This provision applies statewide to highways and roads and aims to accommodate the needs of the aggregates industry while maintaining adherence to roadway weight limits. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives the necessary votes; otherwise, it becomes effective on September 1, 2025​.
