HB 298 proposes an amendment to Section 521.121(a) of the Texas Transportation Code, requiring that a driver’s license or personal identification certificate issued in Texas indicate if the holder is a citizen of the United States. This requirement will apply to any license or ID issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026. Additionally, this bill maintains existing provisions, such as allowing judges and other specific officials to use a courthouse address instead of their residence for added security.
