Digest
HB 3267 expands the conditions under which a person is justified in using force or deadly force in self-defense. The bill amends the Penal Code to clarify that a person’s belief in the necessity of using force is presumed reasonable if they are defending themselves in any building or vehicle where they are lawfully present, not just in their home, business, or vehicle. It also provides additional protections for individuals using deadly force when facing attempted kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, or robbery. These changes would apply to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
