HB 3914 mandates that health benefit plans covering first responders cannot exclude medical benefits for work-related injuries, even if the injury is potentially covered under workers’ compensation. If a workers’ compensation claim is denied, the health plan must provide coverage and later be reimbursed if the claim is accepted. The bill also directs the Department of Insurance to study the effectiveness of this system.
