HB 407 requires municipalities and counties to integrate solar energy compatibility into building codes for new residential construction designed for one to four families. The bill mandates that these homes be constructed to support solar energy devices capable of connecting to the local electric distribution system operated by electric cooperatives, municipally owned utilities, or electric utilities. Builders must ensure compliance through inspections conducted by the respective municipality or county, with non-compliance classified as a Class C misdemeanor. These requirements apply to residential construction beginning on or after September 1, 2027, and the act takes effect on September 1, 2025.
