HB 419 establishes a minimum wage for school bus drivers employed by public school districts with a student enrollment of 4,500 or more, open-enrollment charter schools, and entities contracted to provide public school transportation services. The bill mandates that such employers pay school bus drivers no less than $15 per hour or the federal minimum wage, whichever is greater. This minimum wage requirement overrides other state wage provisions under Sections 62.051 or 62.151 of the Texas Labor Code. The law is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
