Digest
HB 429 amends the Election Code to formalize the participation of children under 16 years of age in the voting process while accompanying a parent to a voting station. Specifically, the bill allows a child under 16 to read or mark a ballot at the direction of their parent without this action being considered voter assistance under existing statutes. Additionally, the bill directs the Secretary of State to develop voter education materials on the relevant procedures and make them available online. County election administrators must also make these materials accessible on their websites. The legislation is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
