Digest
HB 4390 establishes parental rights concerning the use of machine grading in student assessments. It requires the Texas Education Agency to notify parents when artificial intelligence or other automated grading methods are used to score a student’s constructed responses on standardized tests. If a student fails to meet the required performance standard on an exam graded by a machine, the parent has the right to request a rescoring using a traditional human-based scoring method at no cost.
