HB 4624 prevents defendants from using a victim’s gender identity or sexual orientation as a legal defense in criminal trials. It explicitly bars claims of self-defense, reduced culpability, or sudden passion if based on discovering a victim’s gender identity, sexual orientation, or receiving a nonviolent romantic or sexual advance. The bill applies to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025​.
